Trans P.o.C. Prison Abolitionist organization TGIJP(Transgender, Gender-Variant Intersex, Justice Organization) and Emmi Bevensee
will be holding a panel discussion followed by a community engagement around the intersections of colonialism, capitalism, and globalization with sex, gender, race, and sexuality. To focus on these topics we will be taking a critical lens towards the conditions of Transwomen in the Prison-Industrial Complex (PIC).
TGIJP-“TGI Justice Project is a group of transgender people—inside and outside of prison—creating a united family in the struggle for survival and freedom.
We work in collaboration with others to forge a culture of resistance and resilience to strengthen us for the fight against imprisonment, police violence, racism, poverty, and societal pressures. We seek to create a world rooted in self determination, freedom of expression, and gender justice.”-TGIJP.org
THERE WILL BE FOOD AND DRINK!

Next Thursday at Noon I have been asked to teach this nifty little online class. The description is below:
What’s all the fuss about consent? What does ‘rape culture’ mean? How does abuse affect individuals and society? And how can people who love each other make sure their relationships are truly consensual and mutually fulfilling? This ninety minute class provides an overview of consent issues in society, followed by practical strategies for making your personal relationships more fulfilling, consensual and safe.
Instructor Asher Bauer believes that the personal is political, and that individuals practicing consensual, joyous sexuality can be an act of radical resistance to a pervasive climate of non-consent. Course will be taped and accessible later as a self-paced video class.
So that last sentence means that if you have interest in taking this later on but can’t afford to/don’t have time to do it next Thursday, you can take it later on because it will be videotaped. Anyone who might be interested in this can enroll here.

Note: I want to apologize for my prior misspellings of Brandy’s name. I was seeing both the I and Y spelling from multiple sources. I will go back and correct my previous posts ASAP.
From Transfeminism:
Brandy Martell was shot and killed in downtown Oakland early Sunday morning. Photo by Tiffany Woods.
Brandy Martell, 37, a Hayward resident, was killed in downtown Oakland early Sunday morning. Martell, who identified as transsexual, was in her car at the corner of Franklin and 13th Streets in Oakland’s city center when she was shot repeatedly through the window and side door. Hers was one of three murders in the city that night.
While some news outlets are reporting that the murder was the result of a botched robbery, Martell’s friends believe she may have been the victim of a hate crime. Another transgender woman and friend of Martell’s—who wants to keep her identity private—was in the back seat of the car. According to this witness, she, Martell and two other transgender women had been socializing in the parked vehicle for several hours. Around 3 am, two men approached the car and chatted with the women briefly, the witness said. Martell and the other women told the men they were transgendered, and after a seemingly cordial conversation, the men walked off, said the witness.
Two hours later, the men reappeared, and one of them stuck the barrel of an automatic weapon into the crack of Martell’s window, according to the witness. According to her, the man shot Martell in the side, and the other women fled as Martell tried to drive away. Martell made it only as far as the intersection before her wounds stopped her. The gunman fired multiple shots into the car, two of which struck Martell, the witness said. The shooter and the other man got away on foot. The other women in the car had been taken away by the police to give their witness statements by the time the ambulance arrived, the witness said.
The Oakland Police Department did not return phone calls regarding this case, and has not released any public statements or press releases.
From It’s The Music, People!
There will be a public funeral and homecoming services for Brandy Martell Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at C.P. Bannon Mortuary, 6800 International Boulevard in Oakland. She was a transgender woman murdered during a hate crime downtown. Please come and show support for Brandy and all trans people. There is a vigil on 13th and Franklin, please bring flowers, candles and whatever else you might want to leave to keep her memory alive.

from Oakland Occupy Patriarchy:
“Brandi, a transwoman, was murdered last night, shot at 12th and Franklin in Downtown Oakland after an altercation with a man who became enraged and shot her when he realized she was trans. An amazing #oo comrade tried to keep her alive with training learned from the People’s Community Medics, but the cops walked away and the ambulance came too late”
Everyone please spread this as widely as possible and please show out tonight to stand up against transphobic violence!
No news stories yet on the situation but will try and keep this updated with info
Update @ 6:33: Mercury News has only this to say:
“The third death occurred at 5:45 a.m., when a person was shot to death at the corner of 13th and Franklin streets, a block from the Burger King where the Saturday incident occurred.
Police responding to reports of shots fired saw the person lying in the roadway, outside another restaurant that apparently had some of its windows shattered by gunfire. The shooting victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Hey everyone,
The Walk Against Rape is coming right up on this Saturday, the 28th. Please consider donating to my walk page if you can. But if you can’t, I would be even more delighted if any trans folks simply decided to show up on the day of the walk and make sure there is a good trans presence on the street.
See you Saturday (maybe)!

A Gift To The Citadel: Trans Pride Flag To Be Presented At November 18th TransMission Party
The TransMission team will be presenting a trans pride flag as a gift to the SF Citadel at the next TransMission party on November 18th. This will be both a gesture of our gratitude to the Citadel, and also a way to take our place as proud, permanent members of the Citadel community.
The Citadel has done so much for TransMission by encouraging us to develop and host this event at their venue. TransMission, for its own part, has brought new members to the Citadel from throughout the trans community.
Trans folks from literally across the world have come together at TransMission. We were grateful recipients of the Leather Alliance’s Best New Event award last year. We seem to sign up new members at nearly every party, many of whom have never even been to a dungeon before. We have much to be proud of!
TransMission’s attendees are the people who have made this possible. Without you, even the hard work of my fabulous co-hosts would have been for nothing. So we would like to invite you to join us in presenting the Citadel with this gift from all of us. Please come on November 18th to join in this special celebration!
